I’m Human First, and Therapist Second.
As a therapist, it’s my job to help others manage their stress and emotions, but let’s be real—I’m human too. I face stress, struggles, and overwhelming moments just like anyone else. Over the years, I’ve found ways to cope with life’s ups and downs, and I want to share the strategies that help me stay grounded and balanced. If you’re curious about how I manage stress and take care of myself while guiding others, keep reading!
Here’s how I manage:
💪 Going to the Gym
Exercise is a powerful stress-buster, releasing endorphins that help boost my mood and energy levels. It also gives me a healthy outlet to clear my mind and refocus after a long day.
🎶 Listening to Calming Music
Music has an amazing ability to regulate our emotions, offering comfort and relaxation. Whether it’s classical, nature sounds, or instrumental tunes, it helps calm my nervous system and keep me centered.
📓 Journaling My Thoughts
Journaling is a safe space where I can reflect and process my feelings. Writing down my thoughts allows me to clear mental clutter, gain perspective, and let go of stress.
🕯️ Aromatherapy with Eucalyptus Candles
The soothing scent of eucalyptus helps me unwind and feel rejuvenated. Aromatherapy has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, bringing peace to both the body and mind.
😴 Taking Power Naps
Sometimes, a quick nap is all I need to recharge. Short naps (10–20 minutes) improve cognitive function and reduce fatigue, allowing me to approach the rest of my day with more focus and energy.
🥗 Mindful Eating
Eating mindfully helps me stay present and connected to the experience of nourishing my body. By paying attention to my hunger cues and eating without distractions, I can reduce stress around food and feel more balanced.
⏸️ Taking Breaks Throughout My Workday
Taking short breaks throughout the day helps prevent burnout and maintains productivity. Stepping away from my work gives me the mental space to reset and refocus.
🐶 Cuddling with My Dog
Spending time with my dog brings comfort and unconditional love. Petting or cuddling with an animal is proven to reduce stress and boost feelings of happiness.
🎯 Setting Realistic Daily Goals (And Celebrating Those Little Wins)
Setting small, achievable goals helps me feel productive and accomplished. Celebrating even the tiniest wins creates a sense of achievement that builds confidence and reduces overwhelm.
💖 Practicing Self-Compassion
Being kind to myself during tough moments is essential. Instead of criticizing myself for struggles, I offer compassion, which lowers stress and helps me approach challenges with a gentle, patient mindset.
💬 Talking to Friends
Sharing how I’m feeling with friends creates a sense of connection and emotional relief. Social support is crucial for managing stress and helps me feel understood and less isolated.
☕ Enjoying a Warm Cup of Coffee (I Swear, It Soothes the Soul!)
Coffee is a comforting ritual in my day that gives me a moment to pause. The warmth and aroma of a cup of coffee can be incredibly grounding and serve as a mini self-care ritual.
🧘♀️ Setting Aside Daily "Me Time"
Taking time for myself—whether it’s a few minutes or an hour—allows me to recharge. Me time is non-negotiable because it keeps me in balance and ensures I’m mentally and emotionally prepared for everything life throws my way.
These simple acts are more than just routines—they help me ground myself and remind me that it’s okay to take care of ME first. Stress management doesn’t have to be complicated, and it’s all about finding the small, meaningful things that work for you.
Taking care of myself isn’t just a privilege, it’s a necessity. And I hope this inspires you to prioritize your well-being too! 🌿💚
